Letter: Kathi Meyer has my vote for Routt County commissioner

Routt County voters are fortunate to have two qualified candidates running for county commissioner this fall. That having been said, my choice is Kathi Meyer and I’ll indicate why.

I have known and worked with Kathi in various capacities over the past 20 plus years, and have witnessed firsthand what she has accomplished in that time.

Any Routt County citizen who is or has been housed by the Routt Affordable Living Foundation, the Yampa Valley Housing Authority or Habitat for Humanity can thank Kathi for those accommodations.  She has been a tireless advocate for affordable housing in this community over that period of time, having served on, and led those three organizations.

She served two terms on the Steamboat Springs City Council, where she was always well prepared for the issues presented and dealt with those issues in an even handed manner. Kathi not only served on the City Council, but was active in the Colorado Municipal League, the state organization which coordinates city leaders from all over the state. She served on the CML board and was respected enough by the board members for them to elect her to various officer positions, including president, being only the second woman in CML history to hold that position. This brought honor and recognition to our town and county. In addition to this, she spent 16 years on the city planning commission, many of those as its chairperson, and oversaw the update of the community plan and the development code.

Kathi was intimately involved with the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics, serving as Administrative Head for the Nordic Combined events. She has served on the organizing committee or as event co-chair for four World Cups, four World Cup Bs and five National Championships held here in Routt County, as well as other aspects of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, and has volunteered on a weekly basis in the emergency room at UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center.

Prior to moving to Steamboat, she had a long and successful career in finance, so she surely would be valuable to the county commission with regard to its financial issues. She has demonstrated her abilities, and willingness to serve this community over and over, and we all will be well served having her as our next county commissioner, and I ask you to join me in voting for Kathi Meyer for County Commission.
