Letter: How about some presidential candidates that the other party won’t automatically hate?

The latest unprecedented news is all about the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago to collect highly classified documents. Beyond that statement, none of us apart from a very select few know much more. Yet Republicans have already spun out various defenses, including that the FBI planted it all and that they were actually declassified, among other equally outlandish excuses.

Think about that. These materials apparently include some of our most sensitive nuclear secrets. What would that be worth to a sovereign adversary such as Russia? A trillion dollars? More? I know that Donald Trump is a genius because he told us so. This is probably just casual reading for the former president, right? Why in the world would he have retained these particular documents?

I think it’s chilling. And people are already jumping in to make excuses. But wait, oh yeah, but what about inflation and the cost of gas?

Let’s take a step back for a moment. Let’s change things. Biden is past his prime and Trump is poison to too many. I hope both parties give us fresh candidates with new ideas.

Let’s leave these two octogenarians alone and select candidates in both parties without all this baggage. Let’s let all that stuff play out as it will, and go beyond it in our next election. Let’s have better choices.

Can both parties please select a candidate that the other party won’t automatically hate? Someone who puts country over party? How about someone under 60? How about a woman? Say, Condi Rice vs Sheryl Sandberg. In fact, each could be the VP choice on the other’s ticket. Now that’s unprecedented! And we’d have a Bronco in the White House!
