YVCF to give 5 gifts of $5,000
The Yampa Valley Community Foundation, which awards almost $400,000 to nonprofit organizations in Routt and Moffat counties each year, will celebrate its 25th anniversary by giving away an additional $25,000 this year.
Five $5,000 Sterling Anniversary Awards will be given to nonprofits that have made substantial impacts to improve the Yampa Valley. One award will be presented in each of five categories — arts and culture, education, environment, health and human services and recreation.
“We though this would be our gift to the nonprofit community,” said Dianna Sutton, president and CEO of the Community Foundation.
Award winners will be chosen through a public nomination process. Nominees should be nonprofit, charitable organizations that epitomize the mission of YVCF: to honor tradition and maintain the character of the Yampa Valley.
YVCF has committed $1,000 for each of the fields of interest and is seeking businesses and individuals to partner in sponsoring the areas of interest. The Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. has agreed to supplement the remaining $4,000 for the award in the recreational category, and Alpine Bank has agreed to co-sponsor the educational field of interest with $4,000.
Sponsorships are being sought for the other categories.
The Sterling Anniversary Award for recreation will be presented March 3 at a luncheon at the Steamboat Grand Resort in conjunction with Colorado Non-Profit Week. The education category award will be presented in May.
The Steamboat Pilot & Today is assisting with the nomination process for the awards. Nominations for the recreation award must be received by Feb. 16. at the Steamboat Pilot & Today newspaper office at 1901 Curve Plaza or by e-mailing email@example.com.
Businesses can donate as much as they want for co-sponsorships, Sutton said
From discretionary donations and donor advised groups, YVCF was able to give more than $394,000 in grants last year to the five listed types of nonprofit organizations, plus several scholarships. Since 1996, YVCF has awarded 591 grants totaling almost $1.83 million.
