Young Bloods Collective seeking submissions for new ‘SHIFT’ program

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Shift — an intransitive verb meaning to go through a change — is the idea behind the Young Bloods Collective’s new movement and dance program.

Led by creator and director Nicole LeDuc, the SHIFT program will have a similar style to the Young Bloods Collective’s annual SPEAK event.

Recently, SHIFT announced an open call for submissions inspired by the prompt:

“Imagine using dance, movement to move through something stifling in your life — maybe something traumatic, big or out of the ordinary? Let’s create a SHIFT in your life by giving you an opportunity to move and dance through it, rather than have it rule your life.”

Submissions are open to all genders 18 and older. Each piece will be limited to about three minutes featuring up to five dancers or it could be a solo piece. Costumes are also encouraged.

To submit a SHIFT piece, visit youngbloodscollective.org/open-calls and provide a description of the piece including the concept, costumes, music, the number of dancers or if it’s a solo performance. Please note this is a juried event. Selected pieces will be notified via email by Nov. 7.

The deadline for submissions will be accepted until midnight Oct. 31.

There will be four weeks of rehearsals with a dress rehearsal on Dec. 6 and two evening shows scheduled for Dec. 7 and 8 at the Chief Theater.
