Young artists invited to submit Winter Carnival button designs

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Kids 18 and younger who are enrolled in a local school are invited to enter the 2019 Winter Carnival button art contest. Young artists should submit their original designs online at WinterCarnivalButtonArt.com.

This year’s Winter Carnival theme is “Blast of Winter” in honor of Steamboat’s snow-filled winters and in reference to the annual fireworks shows. Artists should contain their artwork within a circle that fills an 8.5-by-11 piece of paper or larger. Any medium may be used that translates well onto a flat button — markers, pencils, digital design, crayons or paint. Designs can be scanned or photographed and uploaded online. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 23.

Community voting on the designs will take place from Nov. 26 to Dec. 3 at WinterCarnivalButtonArt.com. When voting closes, the top three votes by popular vote will go up against the top three votes by juried vote, and one button will be chosen.

The winning artist will be notified by Dec. 19, and his or her artwork will be used on 2019 Winter Carnival banners, posters, websites and digital and print publications.
