Yampatika opens registration for summer camps

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Registration for Yampatika’s summer camps is now open. Programs provide environmental education and inspire curiosity in the natural world for children ages 5 to 15.

“Yampatika’s summer camps are truly unique,” Yampatika Program Director Kellie Gorman was quoted as saying in a news release. “Each camp has a weeklong theme to learn about topics such as wildlife, tracking, watershed and fire ecology, and they include field trips, citizen science and even some overnight adventures.”

New this year will be a weekly camp for 5- to 7-year-olds, and Yampatiks’s Junior Naturalist program for 12- to 15-year-olds will return after a successful debut last summer.

“Staff are excited to continue to grow this opportunity for young people to gain valuable leadership and teaching skills, and this program is particularly suited for youth who have a desire to move into the field of environmental education and develop practical career skills,” Yampatika Youth Program Manager Sam Rush said in the release.

Yampatika also offers scholarships for eligible youths, and there is an early-bird discount for those who register prior to May 1. Early registration is suggested as camps fill up quickly.
