Yampa Valley Singers to celebrate season with two performances of ‘A Snow Globe Winter’
The Yampa Valley Singers are inviting the community to celebrate the season with their performances of “A Snow Globe Winter” on Jan. 17 and Jan. 18 at the Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church.
“We’re starting out with ‘Marshmallow World,’ and that is really fun,” said Ruth McClelland, a member of the Yampa Valley Singers. “Even the vision of what we named it, ‘A Snow Globe Winter’ makes you think of — or at least that’s what I remember from when I was a kid — taking those snow globes and you turn them upside down, and then you turn them up and the snow falls down. So, that’s kind of the vision we had.”
The concerts will take place at 7 p.m. Friday Jan. 17, and at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church at 736 Oak St.
The concert will include over a dozen songs performed by the Yampa Valley Singers including “Season of Dreams,” “Song for a Winter’s Night,” “Melt the Winter into Spring” and “California Dreaming,” to name just a few.
Also featured will be a couple of ensembles, as well as a performance by the Strawberry Park Elementary School Sea Wolves.
The Yampa Valley Choral Society, which includes the Yampa Valley Singers and the Steamboat Chamber Singers, was established in 2009, according to McClelland. The Yampa Valley Singers have traditionally performed a winter concert and a spring concert.
This year’s winter concert will celebrate the joys of winter in the Yampa Valley with songs that embrace the winter season, complete with a visual display put together by Gerry Audesirk, a singer that researched and selected songs that match the music to illustrate the concert.
McClelland said the Yampa Valley Singers include 40 singers from across Routt County stretching from Toponas to Clark, and are led by Keri Rusthoi. The group has met every Thursday night for the past 12 weeks to prepare for the concerts.
Following the winter concerts the performers will gather in Fellowship Hall to visit with audience members.
“It’s a really good time to do ‘Snow Globe’ Winter concerts,” McClelland said. “You know everyone’s hoping for more snow, and it’s a good and fun concert.”
Tickets to the performances can be purchased from any member of the Yampa Valley Singers or by calling McClelland at 970-846-2641.
