What: Yampa Valley Crane Festival
When: Thursday, Aug. 30 through Sunday, Sept. 2
Schedule: ColoradoCranes.org

At 5 p.m., aerial dancers with Spirit Wind Aerial Arts will perform outside Library Hall on the library lawn. Local aerialist Heidi Miller and an advanced troupe of students perform elegant high-flying dance in the hammock and silks, suspended high over the grass.

Moving indoors at 6 p.m., crane expert Paul Tebbel presents “Why We Love Cranes” in Library Hall. Through the use of video footage and sharing stories collected over his decades of working with and watching cranes, Tebbel combines the biology of their survival with explanations of their behavior to help better understand these amazing birds.

The day concludes with award-winning author Jennifer Ackerman talking about her New York Times bestselling book “The Genius of Birds” at 7 p.m. in Library Hall. The Yampa Valley Crane Festival runs Thursday, Aug. 30, through Sunday, Sept. 2, with festival headquarters at Bud Werner Memorial Library. Visit ColoradoCranes.org for the full festival schedule.
