Nonprofit Friends of the Yampa will host the official grand opening of the new Yampa River Center from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday with a free, family-friendly event offering snacks, drinks, tours, door prizes and a live printing of Ohana T-shirts with a new Yampa River design.
The Yampa River Center is a new river education installation located on the first floor of the Friends of the Yampa office at 743 Oak St. in downtown Steamboat Springs. After the grand opening, the Yampa River Center will be open to the public 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays.
The center fulfills a goal for the Friends of the Yampa staff and board to create a gathering space centered around the river and will provide a permanent home for “The Yampa River: From the Flat Tops to the Green River” exhibit from the Tread of Pioneers Museum.
“The Yampa River Center is a place for visitors and residents to learn more about the Yampa River, whether it’s mindfulness in nature workshops or volunteer trainings,” FOTY Outreach Manager Katie Berning said.
The center will offer trainings, workshops, learning opportunities, and an event and meeting space. For questions, email info@friendsoftheyampa.com.
