Wrestlers get glimpse of postseason

— The Sailors had a quick glimpse Saturday of what it is going to take to make it to state. Of the 10 teams at the Rifle tournament, six will be at regionals Feb. 16.

With Will Zimmerer placing third and Dave Gittleson taking fourth, coach Jay Muhme said the tournament was critical in determining seeds for the regional event.

Heavyweight Zimmerer was pinned in the first round by Palisade’s Mike Messenger. But Zimmerer went on to win the rest of his matches as he pinned Meeker’s Chris Enbanks, Delta’s Seth Lewis and Pueblo Centennial’s Luke Wiley in the final round.

Gittleson, at 119 pounds, placed fourth. He lost to Palisade’s Harvie Tate but pinned Delta’s Brandon Gorlin. He lost in the final round to Pueblo Centennial’s Nick Ross.
