— A 21-year-old Steamboat Springs woman faces charges of felony vehicular assault following a DUI crash Tuesday night.

Kelsey M. Brod was arrested on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, open alcohol beverage container, two counts of careless driving causing injury and two counts of felony vehicular assault.

A Routt County Sheriff’s Office deputy was on patrol when he spotted a white Ford Escape in the ditch near mile marker 17 on Routt County Road 14. There had been three passengers in the car, and one of them had a large cut on his forehead.

The deputy later learned the 43-year-old male passenger also had a broke femur. Another passenger, a 23-year-old woman, had broke facial bones.

A doctor at Yampa Valley Medical Center classified the passengers as having serious bodily injuries.

According to an arrest affidavit, Brod told the deputy she was trying to change the song on her iPod when the crash occurred.

Brod told the deputy she had three alcoholic drinks beginning around 5:30 p.m. and “probably too much to drive,” the affidavit states.

Brod later took a breath test that showed she had a blood alcohol level of .184, the affidavit states.
