Wintry weather expected by Tuesday in Steamboat Springs
A strong cold front is expected to bring wintry weather to the Steamboat Springs area beginning Tuesday, according to local meteorologist Mike Weissbluth.
Weissbluth, who posts twice-a-week local forecasts for the Yampa Valley area on SnowAlarm.com, said a storm generating over the Pacific Ocean would bring precipitation beginning Monday night with snow expected to fall at the top of the Steamboat Ski Resort before descending into downtown Steamboat by Tuesday afternoon.
“We could see 6-12″ of snow on the hill by Wednesday afternoon and 2-5″ in town with high temperatures only in the thirties, with difficult travel at times over Rabbit Ears Pass” on Tuesday, wrote Weissbluth.
The local meteorologist said if skies clear behind the storm by Thursday, “we will see the coldest temperatures of the season so far with lows forecast to be in the mid to lower-teens, almost ten degrees below our average of 22 F.”
Looking ahead to the city’s annual Halloween Stroll event, Weissbluth said to expect plenty of sun during the day with high temperatures warming into the 40s, “but temperatures will plummet as soon as the sun goes down so dress warmly under those costumes!”
