William Scott Kaplan

Steamboat Springs resident Will “Skip” Kaplan died suddenly Sept. 9, 2003, at his home in Steamboat. He was 48.

Will was born Oct. 31, 1954, in Ridgewood, N.J., to William and Patricia Kaplan. He grew up in New Jersey and graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

He was an artist and entrepreneur, most recently working as a general contractor in the Steamboat area.

Will was a lover and conservator of wild animals and an accomplished ocean-going sailing captain. He has a zest for life and lived it to its fullest, and he always did things his way.

He will be sorely missed by his wife and best friend, June “Linde” Lindenmayer; a daughter, Mia, age 20, of Memphis, Tenn.; a son, Scott, age 22, of Baton Rouge, La.; his loving sister, Suzanne Kaplan-Tidwell of Odessa, Fla.; two brothers, Bruce Kaplan of Allentown, Pa., and James Kaplan of Palm Harbor, Fla.; three nieces; two nephews; and two Labrador retrievers, Chloe and Jackson Brown.

A celebration service for Will was held Sept. 19, 2003, at Perry-Mansfield. Graveside services will be held Sept. 27, 2003, at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to the Will Kaplan Scholarship Fund at Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp, Steamboat Springs, in care of Community First National Bank, attention Dean Vogelaar.
