William Frederick Weber (1924-2004)

Former Steamboat Springs resident William Frederick Weber passed away Aug. 9, 2004, in Mesa, Ariz. He was 79.

William was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Laurel, Mont. He moved to Steamboat in 1939 with his aunt and uncle, Benjamin and Lela Gilbert. William was a member of the Steamboat Springs Methodist Church.

In 1943, he graduated from Steamboat Springs High School, where he received the Bausch and Lomb Science Medal.

During World War II, he was a radio operator in Gen. George Patton’s Third Army. He received a Bronze Star for bravery in action. He also served in the occupation force in Austria.

After the war, William attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering.

William worked as an engineer for the Navy and at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pittsburgh, Penn.

He and his family summered in Steamboat for many years, and they enjoyed their time here with family and friends.

William is survived by his wife, Dr. Yvonne Roebuck Weber; two daughters; five grandchildren and a brother, Donald Weber, who recently moved from Steamboat to Show Low, Ariz.

Memorial services were held Aug. 18, 2004, in Mesa, and Aug. 25 and 26 in Pittsburgh. Inurnment is at Lebanon Chapel Mausoleum in West Mifflin, Penn.
