Where to celebrate Hanukkah in Steamboat this weekend

Paul Danziger lights the menorah during the Hanukkah street festival Thursday. Danziger was joined by his son, Joshua (far left) and Rabbi Isaac Abelsky (second from left) during the street festival’s first year. A large crowd showed up for the event, which included a nearly 7-foot high ice sculpture of a menorah, chocolate coins (or gelt) dropped from a ladder truck, a DJ playing music as well as latkes and other traditional Jewish foods. Thursday marked the second day of Hanukkah, which started Dec. 25 this year.

Har Mishpacha, the Jewish Congregation of Steamboat Springs, is hosting the Festival of Light on Saturday at Steamboat Resort in honor of the holiday season.

This year, a Hanukkah menorah made out of snowboards will be installed at the base of Steamboat Resort. The creation was made by Randy Salky and other community members.

The lighting of the menorah will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Steamboat Stage in the base area of Steamboat Resort. All are welcome to view and celebrate.

Har Mishpacha, Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church and the Buddhist Center of Steamboat will later host a menorah lighting at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church at 736 Oak St. The event will host a latke potluck.
