What will it cost? A menu for possible Steamboat Springs school projects

The consulting firm NV5, working on behalf of the Steamboat Springs School District,  has provided its tentative cost estimates  for a variety of capital projects under consideration by the school board.

The school board is in the process of determining its highest priorities and which of those to take to the voters in the November election to seek funding, potentially through a bond issue, or perhaps a mill levy override. A special board meeting on July 18 will be devoted to the decision-making process.

NV5’s project list follows:



Phase I critical projects 

Gardner Athletic Field new track surface and all-weather turf replacement: $3.6M



Roofing projects district wide: $5.3 million

Middle school heating/vent/air conditioning replacement: $4 million

Total: $12.9 million

Additions and renovations

• Steamboat Springs High School

• SSHS total: $8.56 million; costliest item, 14,000-square-foot addition, $7.4 million

• Steamboat Springs Middle School

SSMS total: $10.39 million; costliest item, 18,500-square-foot addition with removal of a modular, $9.9 million

• Strawberry Park  Elementary

SPE total: $2.93M; costliest item, addition of 3,200 square feet for cafetorium and new front entry, $2.47 million

• Soda Creek Elementary

SCE total: $2.93 million; costliest item, 5,000-square-foot classroom addition and modular removal, $2.83 million

• North Routt Charter School

Costliest item: 10,000-square-foot addition for gym/flex space, $4.33 million with furniture, fixtures and equipment

• Whistler school site

• Feasibility costs: $71,000

• New 70,000-square-foot elementary school, $39 million

• New furniture, fixtures and equipment, $750,000

• Site access construction costs, $8 million
