Western Slope groups sponsor electric vehicle sale

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Drivers in Routt and Moffat counties are eligible to purchase discounted plug-in electric-gasoline hybrid or all-electric vehicles through Oct. 31 via the annual Electric Vehicle Sales Event organized by Western Slope nonprofit and municipal organizations.

Yampa Valley Sustainability Council is helping promote the sale that features seven energy-efficient and pollution-reducing models from Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, Audi, Chevrolet and Honda.

Discounts range from $515 to $1,950 at six car dealers in Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. Driving an electric-powered vehicle can translate to the equivalent cost of $1.10 per gallon. The electric-only range of the sale vehicles span from 16 to 238 miles, but the hybrid models also function as traditional gasoline vehicles.

The models on sale, ranging from a Chrysler Pacifica plug-in minivan to a 238-mile range all-electric Chevy Bolt, are eligible for a full $5,000 Colorado tax credit and up to $7,500 in federal tax credits. The Nissan Leaf models have a special rebate of $3,000 through Sept. 30.

Last summer, 42 families or companies took advantage of the sale. Complete information is available at GarfieldCleanEnergy.org or by calling nonprofit CLEER at 970-704-9200 with specific driving questions.
