Westerly opens doors to new look, top brands, great art as it reopens in downtown Steamboat

The doors at the Westerly reopened on the first Friday in February as owners Jacque and Ryan Scheer revealed a new concept that offers fine art, apparel, home decor and apothecary and curiosities in the heart of downtown Steamboat Springs.
“We just wanted to do something more passion driven, and we’ve always wanted to do a mercantile of some sorts,” Jacque said as she stood behind a smaller check-out counter that has replaced the bar which used to anchor the art gallery the Scheers purchased in 2023. “We decided to rip the band-aid off, and just do it and pivot. We still have drinks and the lounge area, but it’s just not the focus anymore.”
Customers can still come in for beer and wine and enjoy the lounge, but the Sheers wanted to create a new space that blends all their passions in one spot. The space is filled with fine art lining the walls, quality brands offered for sale and even wooden toys creating a setting to honor Steamboat’s western heritage.

“We just have such a passion and love for brands in general,” Jacque said. “We like good brands that tell a good story and that really falls hand-in-hand with art.”
Inside, Westerly customers will find men’s and women’s clothing from top brands like: Freenote Cloth, Iron&Resin, The Great, SLVRLAKE, Hey Gang, Taylor Stitch and La Matera. The Westerly also offers LHN Jand Erin Gallagher jewelry, bags and wallets from Clare V and Hampui Hats.
Willee Roberts with Hampui Hats will be in Steamboat Springs Feb. 14-21 for a custom hat fitting. Clients wanting custom hat fittings can book a time at The-Westerly.com.
The walls still feature art from local artists including Scheer who uses photography techniques from the late 1800s to produce western-themed dioramas. Guests can also enjoy the work of Steamboat Springs painter MB Warner, who was featured last week during First Friday Artwalk.
Visitors will also find the work of artists including a Nashville-based artist, Brandon Owen, whose work focuses on western themes with styles that range from illustrative to impressionist; South Carolina oil painter Kym Day whose western-inspired imagery is rooted in her experiences growing up in Texas; Drew Christie, who draws on his experiences as an award-winning illustrator and animator to create dreamlike oil paintings that reflect the rugged dusty landscapes of the American West; and Tanden Launder, a multi-medium artist from Idaho whose contemporary western art revolves around creative visual biographies of the iconic west and its heroes.

Ryan said The Westerly will continue to take part in First Friday Artwalk and has partnered with Mythology, offering the distillery a place to offer its brand during the event. The Scheer’s said they are currently looking for an employee, but will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Jacque believes the art on the walls, and the clothing she is selling are a perfect fit for the Westerly.
“A really good piece of clothing should be considered a piece of art as well,” Jacque said. “We were wanting to bring something new to Steamboat that we don’t have already. The Westerly is for the whole family, for men, for women, for adults and for children … we are trying to mesh all our loves together into one little thing.”
