West Grand trips up Soroco volleyball

The Soroco High School volleyball team’s weekend got off to a bad start when the squad was swept in three games by Vail Christian on Friday night.

Things got worse Saturday morning when the team lost a five-game match against a struggling West Grand team.

The team finally rebounded later Saturday with a three-game sweep against Vail Mountain.

“Against Vail Mountain, we eliminated a lot of the errors,” Rams’ coach Kim Reeves said. “The girls were ready to go out there, pick up the pace and play much better after that first one.”

Soroco lost to West Grand, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-12.

It beat Vail Mountain, 25-21, 25-15, 25-17.

The team is off until Saturday, when it plays at Paonia. The emphasis, Reeves said, will be on defense and hitting.

“We really need to focus on getting more kills,” she said.
