Warmer weather expected in Steamboat on heels of storm expected Tuesday
Look for warmer weather and sunny skies this week after a quick-moving storm arrives Tuesday in Steamboat Springs, said local meteorologist Mike Weissbluth in his Sunday SnowAlarm.com forecast.
The warmer forecast comes after rounds of snow affected the Steamboat area throughout the week with a particularly powerful day of precipitation on election day last week that led to road closures and accidents, including a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 40 west of Milner.
Weissbluth, who posts twice a week weather forecasts on Thursdays and Sundays on SnowAlarm.com, said the storm expected Tuesday will bring a cold front through the area by afternoon with temperatures reaching the mid-40s under increasingly cloudy skies, “with precipitation quickly changing to snow at lower elevations as the front passes.”
“The bulk of the precipitation should fall between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning along and behind the front in favorable cool, moist and unstable northwest flow, with 1-4″ in town and 4-8″ on the hill, with difficult travel at times over Rabbit Ears Pass under the heavier showers,” according to Weissbluth.
“There is some uncertainty regarding how cohesive the storm will be and its southern extent, but it should be over by Wednesday afternoon with high temperatures only in the mid-30s despite some afternoon sun,” he added.
