Warm, dry conditions to persist in Steamboat Springs before possible ‘winter-like’ storm
Warm temperatures in the Yampa Valley are expected to continue through midweek, followed by a potential “winter-like” storm.
“A strong winter-like storm will approach our area after midweek with its track and timing still very uncertain,” said local meteorologist Mike Weissbluth Sunday afternoon.
Weissbluth, who posts twice-weekly local weather forecasts to SnowAlarm.com on Thursday and Sunday afternoons, said high temperatures in the low 70s, almost 15 degrees above local average temperatures for this time of year, will continue through Wednesday.
“Winds will increase further on a still-cloudy Thursday as the incoming storm moves into the Great Basin,” Weissbluth said Sunday, adding that there is “still major disagreement” among various forecast models.
” … The cold air and at least some moisture eventually moves through the area, perhaps by Friday or perhaps later during the weekend, or both. Significant snow is possible at the higher elevations, with even accumulating snow advertised in town in some of the solutions,” said Weissbluth.
“So enjoy what seems like the endless mild fall weather more representative of mid-September than mid-October to start the workweek, and check back for what should be a very interesting weather narrative on Thursday afternoon for more details on this potential winter-like storm,” he added.
