Topping the news this morning, Molly Look has returned home.

Molly, 3, returned home Monday evening after spending more than two weeks at Denver Children’s Hospital recovering from frostbite. She wandered outside on the morning of Jan. 17 and was found 30 minutes later sitting on a snowbank wearing only a long-sleeved shirt by a passerby. Temperatures that morning were well below zero.

Molly lives with her parents, Del and Yvette Look, and older sisters, Lexy, 11, and Kady, 8, in North Routt County. Dean Look lives about a mile away on Routt County Road 129. Bob Printy and his wife, Bonnie, live about a mile in the other direction.

Molly’s homecoming was a blessing, Printy said.

Along with housing, real estate prices and parking in downtown Steamboat Springs, growth in Routt County is having a significant impact on health-related services.

To plan for the expanded services that Routt County’s booming growth will require, Bob White, director of the Routt County Department of Human Services, and other local health officials and members of the Human Resource Coalition have prepared a draft Health and Human Services Plan. White presented the plan Tuesday at a joint meeting of the Routt County Board of Commissioners and the Steamboat Springs City Council.

The plan identifies concerns such as senior citizen care, early childhood care, language barriers due to a growing immigrant population, preventative services for at-risk youths, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. It also identifies local organizations currently working to address those concerns.

If the owners of Mother’s Deli of Steamboat Springs don’t accept an offer from the city for a 21-day liquor license suspension by noon today, the city will hold its first show cause hearing in 15 years.

Steamboat Springs City Clerk Julie Jordan said the show cause hearing, if it moves forward, is a “quasi-judicial” hearing in which city staff would present facts about the September alcohol compliance check Mother’s Deli failed. The information would be presented to the Steamboat Springs City Council, which also acts as the city’s Liquor License Authority.

Stephen Chavez, manager of Mother’s Deli, also would have an opportunity to address the council and present information. Mother’s Deli is owned by Todd Barton of Littleton.

The 21-day suspension stipulates that 14-days of the suspension would be held in abeyance and seven days would be served. The September offense is being treated as a second offense because the state’s Liquor Enforcement Division cited Mother’s Deli in July 2006 for allowing open containers of alcohol to leave the premises. The business’ liquor license was suspended for five days in November for the offense.

In sports, the Steamboat Springs boys Alpine ski team placed second as a team for the second time this season.

This time, the No. 2 result was after Friday’s giant slalom races at Ski Cooper. Summit won the event, with its skiers taking all three top spots on the podium. Evergreen was third in the field of 14 teams.

Ian Landy was Steamboat’s top overall finisher, placing fourth with a combined time of 1 minute, 35.89 seconds.

Ramsey Bernard finished eighth, and Kris Allen was 12th.

Here is your first look at weather. It was 1 degree at 8 a.m. with light snow. We’re on our way to a high of 16 degrees and it is expected to snow throughout the day.
