For the eighth time since 2014, the U.S. Freestyle Ski team has won the Marc Hodler Trophy, an award given each season to the nation with the best cumulative results across all FIS Junior World Championships freestyle events.
The 2024-25 international junior competition season came to a close Sunday with the women’s junior ski cross event in France. The American performance in France was strong enough to secure the trophy over the second-place nation, China, by seven points.
China was dominant this season in the aerials events while the U.S. flashed greatness in moguls.
The American team scored 88 points across all junior freestyle disciplines this season, 29 of which were scored by the women’s moguls athletes — 12 points in singles and 17 in duals.
The moguls team competed in the FIS Junior World Ski Championships at the start of January in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where Steamboat Springs skiers Abby McLarnon and Anabel Ayad shined to put the U.S. in great standing for the trophy.
McLarnon registered a trio of top-five finishes in the championships including taking fourth on singles day and fifth on dual team day. Her biggest performance of all, however, came on duals day where she earned the bronze medal.
Ayad took sixth in singles, fourth in duals — losing to McLarnon in the small final — and filled the final podium position in the dual team event, taking bronze with American teammate Chase Littlefield.
By the end of the world championships in Kazakhstan, Ayad and McLarnon brought the U.S. up to second place in the standings. The team took control of first last weekend.
