Two Milner women charged with drug possession

Gary E. Salazar

— Two Milner women face felony drug charges after they were arrested on cocaine possession charges Wednesday morning.

Orpha Mea Jones, 25, and Teresa Ann Simpson, 22, were arrested by a Routt County Sheriff’s deputy just after midnight about five miles west of Steamboat Springs.

According to court records, the deputy contacted the women because they were sitting in a parked vehicle in front of a closed business off U.S. 40, records show.

The deputy found a plastic bag containing a small amount of a white powder suspected to be cocaine, records show.

The officer became suspicious of the women when he smelled a strong odor of air freshener coming from the vehicle, records show.

The deputy then searched the vehicle and found the suspected cocaine and a marijuana pipe, records show.

The women, who share an apartment in Milner, told the deputy the cocaine belonged to both of them and was purchased in Denver three months ago.

The two women appeared in Routt County Court Wednesday afternoon. Judge James Garrecht set bond for each of the women at $2,000. The women’s next court appearance is set for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 17.
