— Jack Reich was second and Noah Riemenschneider third Tuesday in the super-G at the U16 Rocky/Central regional championships in Vail, and their podium finishes weren’t the only highlights for Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Alpine skiers.

The club had six racers in the top 16 finishers at the event.

“We just have a strong team,” coach Ben Brown said. “We’re really proud of the way they’ve been skiing, the whole team. It was a good day for Steamboat.”

Reich ended up 0.20 seconds behind Central Division skier Isaiah Nelson, who won the race. Riemenschneider couldn’t have been much closer to Reich. He finished 0.02 seconds behind to lock up third place and a trip to the podium.

“They skied really well,” Brown said. “It was a turn-y course, and they executed the plan. They’re just good skiers.”

Marat Washburn was seventh, Phoneix Tatge 12th, James Lahrman 15th and Cole Gedeon 16th.

The super-G race was part of a super combined event, as well. There, Steamboat didn’t do quite as well, taking it a little easier, since the event doesn’t count toward qualifying for the junior national championships.

Still, the team had good results. Washburn was eighth and Gedeon ninth.

Next up in Vail is the girl’s super-G and combined events Wednesday.
