Turner polishes solar skills at workshop

— Ric Turner of Soltec in Steamboat Springs recently returned from an intensive two-week workshop for photovoltaic designers and installers in Redstone.

The workshop hosted by Solar Energy International involved more than a week of class work and three days spent in the field installing a photovoltaic system in a home in Redstone. The system does not require a battery. The homeowner’s electric meter runs backward as a result of the new system — contributing power back to the grid.

Fox named to state plumbing board

Steamboat Springs

Gov. Bill Owens recently appointed Steamboat Springs building contractor Tom Fox to a second term on the board of the Colorado Examining Board of Plumbers.

Fox, owner of Fox Construction, represents general contractors on the seven-member plumbing board. The board regulates and oversees licensing of the plumbing industry in Colorado. It is one of many regulatory boards within the Colorado Division of Regulatory Affairs.

Public service is nothing new for Fox, who is chairman of four local entities: Routt County Board of Adjustment, Routt County Board of Appeals, Routt County Fire Appeals Board and the Yampa Valley Construction Trades User Board. He also is active in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and consults with the Steamboat Springs High School careers program.
