Traveling bar ups the ante for Steamboat’s social gatherings

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — At first glance, a horse trailer is the least likely place guests would choose to congregate, much less enjoy a cocktail.

Then again, the R Bar 2 U is more than just the average horse trailer.

In fact, it’s not really a horse trailer at all.

Thanks to countless hours and hard work by Megan Huvset, 26, and Clark Clevery, 28, who created the new mobile business, there’s now a black walnut bar top.

“The idea for R Bar 2 U really stems from our combined love of creating one-of-a-kind experiences and woodwork design,” Huvset said. “Our wheels are always spinning with different ways to bring a new level of fun into this world and refurbishing this trailer is the first step into our dream project.”

The Colorado natives, Clevery from Craig and Huvset from Westcliffe, had the idea of creating a traveling bar in the back of their minds for a while.

But it started when Clevery, a constant Craigslist patroller, saw the 1980s horse trailer for sale last fall, and the idea of a mobile bar company evolved into what it is now a refurbished rolling bar.

“Our vision was to create a bar that reflected the character of small-town Colorado that we both grew up and thrive in,” Huvset said.

It took about six months to fully renovate. Huvset’s father, business partner and woodworking artist helped them design and build each piece of R Bar 2 U.

“We wanted the bar to look great staged out in a field in the mountains, next to a classic Colorado barn or at the downtown farmers market,” Husvet said. “We envisioned soft glowing lights and lots of beautiful woodwork to accent the white exterior.”

How it works: the host of the event supplies the alcohol due to them being a “dry hire bar,” meaning they don’t purchase or sell the alcohol, and R Bar 2 U handles the rest. The bar is stocked with local and regional farm-to-table-style ingredients to make cocktails that showcase the flavors and seasons of Colorado.

The bar is also equipped with a dual keg cooler with CO2 Tap System that pours out of a custom two-spout draft tower.

“Other than the one-of-a-kind horse trailer bar design, R Bar 2 U is also unique in the sense that we strive to create an unforgettable experience for each event we tend bar at,” Huvset said.

Open to wheeling the mobile R Bar 2 U to any event or gathering from weddings, birthday parties, farmers markets, photoshoots and corporate happy hours to promotional events.
