Trail closures in effect Oct. 13 due to new Elkhead chairlift construction

— Several trails will be closed at Steamboat Resort starting Thursday, Oct. 13, while work on the new Elkhead Express chairlift progresses. During the closure, crews will work to splice and install the chairlift’s haul rope.

Closed trails include Spur Run, Elkhead Loop, Moonlight, Vista Nature Trail and a portion of Valley View. Valley View will remain open until the Elkhead crossing, at which point guests will be required to turn around.

Signs will be placed at closure locations across the mountain. The trails are expected to be closed through Oct. 28 but will reopen sooner if work is completed ahead of schedule.

In addition to the Elkhead work, Steamboat is conducting additional construction projects and preparing for winter. Because heavy machinery is operating across the mountain during this time, Steamboat discourages the use of trails while the mountain is closed.
