Town of Oak Creek to address tire pile on its property

Michael Schrantz

— Oak Creek staff is working toward disposing of a tire pile on town property that was once part of a shooting range.

Town Administrator Mary Alice Page-Allen said Tuesday that the Town Board has given staff marching orders to clean up the pile.

A different tire pile on Colorado Highway 131 between Oak Creek and Steamboat Springs recently was the subject of complaints to Routt County and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Page-Allen said the tires on Oak Creek property will be cut up and disposed of properly. The town is in the process of purchasing a tire cutter and eventually will work through the tires as public works staff has time.

The town has been sensitive to the presence of the tire pile, Page-Allen said, and the Town Board said it was time for it to go.
