Tournament fields set for Hayden basketball teams

— Regional tournament details began to firm up late Saturday and Sunday, as the hurdles the Hayden boys and girls basketball teams will have to overcome in pursuit of the state tournament became more evident.

The Hayden boys team, which wrapped up its district championship with a last-second win Saturday against Paonia, will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mesa State College in Grand Junction against Del Norte.

The winner of that matchup will face the winner of Denver Christian and Ridgway in a regional championship game at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The winner there will be one of eight teams to advance to the state tournament in Pueblo.

The Hayden girls will play at 7 p.m. Friday against Custer County at Durango High School. Dolores and Swink will battle on the other side of the four-team bracket, setting up the regional championship at 1 p.m. Saturday.
