Tigers remain winless after loss to Caprock Academy

Ben Ingersoll

— Hayden High School boys basketball still is waiting to catch its break, and the Tigers will have to wait a little longer as they remain winless after a 55-29 loss to Caprock Academy to close the Meeker Shootout.

Hayden’s top players Carlos Valdez and Jack Redmond were absent Saturday taking the SATs, so younger players got to see some valuable floor time.

“The young kids got to play and they competed well,” Hayden coach Jody Harvey said. “We’re really learning as we go.”

Senior Thomas Rauch had a team-high 12 points. Kole Miner tacked on seven more.

Harvey was particularly proud of Garrett St. Clair, a freshman who saw more minutes than usual.

“He stepped up and filled in ball handling,” Harvey said. “I was proud of him.”

The Tigers now enter Christmas break and won’t be back on the court until Jan. 6 against Steamboat Springs’ junior varsity.
