Theft reported downtown

Merchandise worth $750 stolen from Favorite Things

Kristin Bjornsen

About $750 worth of merchandise was reported stolen from Favorite Things on Sunday night or Monday morning.

An employee at the store at 833 Lincoln Ave. noticed that about 20 glass sculptures, 30 bottles of hand lotion and other bath accessories were missing Monday afternoon. The glass sculptures were about 5 inches high and depicted fairies and angels.

“It had to have been pretty organized because all the things they stole were really breakable,” said Kenton Stratton, the son of the store’s owners.

Store employees don’t know how such a large quantity of merchandise was stolen during store hours because all the items were in the front of the store, in a visible and well-lit area, said Nick Stratton, also the owners’ son. But all the items sat on the same two racks, so that may have made the theft easier.

The owners don’t suspect that someone broke into the store, Kenton Stratton said.

Police do not have any suspects in their investigation, but Nick Stratton said he thinks the perpetrators may have returned to the store Tuesday morning.

He said a pair of women came through the back door Tuesday morning and then quickly left. He later noticed that a few more bath bottles were missing, Nick Stratton said.
