This weekend the Steamboat Springs Actor’s Studio, in partnership with Undiscovered Earth, will host three performances celebrating the 60th anniversary of the beloved musical, The Sound of Music at the Strings Music Pavilion.

“It’s more than just a musical — it’s a story of hope, resilience, and the enduring power of family,” Marje Tracy, who is directing the production, wrote in a release. “Whether you’re revisiting it or discovering it for the first time, there’s something very moving and joyful about this show.”

Performances will take place at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday with a 4 p.m. performance planned for Sunday. The three performances will take place at the Strings Music Pavilion, located at 950 Strings Road. Tickets are available at StringsMusicFestival.com.

Set against the backdrop of World War II, The Sound of Music tells the inspiring story of Maria, a spirited young woman who brings joy and music back into the lives of the von Trapp family.

The musical debuted on Broadway in 1959 and was immortalized in the Academy Award-winning 1965 film.

“The Sound of Music remains one of the greatest musicals ever written,” Tracy wrote. “Now, six decades later, its message of hope and unity resonates more than ever.”

This production features an incredibly talented cast of local students from the area high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools.

“Steamboat Springs Actor’s Studio in partnership with Undiscovered Earth are thrilled to bring The Sound of Music to this great venue,” Tracy said.
