The Routt County RedneX Committee: RedneX Games on hiatus

You may or may not have heard about a little gathering known to many as the Routt County RedneX Games (aka Routt County Redneck Olympics).

This event that takes place in Hayden at the Routt County Fairgrounds was the brainchild of a group of locals with the idea of creating a fun family event to draw people to Hayden to celebrate the amazing facility known as the Routt County Fairgrounds and to raise money for the Routt County Agricultural, Youth and Heritage Foundation.

The event was initiated in 2012 and, to the surprise of many, filled the grandstands at the fairgrounds. In the second year, people from as far away as Denver, Chicago and Virginia planned trips to the Valley around the dates in order to participate in the wacky events and to watch the brave participants who had no qualms with running around on their lawn tractors, flying through the mud or driving tractors through an obstacle course blindfolded being guided by their “trustworthy” partners.

During the three-year run, the event grew in popularity thanks to local support and to our amazing sponsors. Too many to name, you know who you are, and you all are fantastic. Together, we built a fun community event that many have come to love and still talk about today.

Just like our namesake the “Olympics,” our committee has made the decision that this event is too big to hold every year. We are taking the summer of 2015 off, a hiatus if you will.

We would like to thank everyone who has been involved as a volunteer, a participant, a spectator and our sponsors. We hope to bring the event back in the future bigger, better and more redneck than ever.
