Team rewarded for work on ice and in school

The Steamboat Springs hockey team’s accomplishments on the ice and in the classroom were acknowledged at the state’s end-of-season awards banquet held earlier this month.

Eight Sailors players garnered some form of All-League recognition, and nine Steamboat players received academic team selection.

Steamboat players who received All-League acknowledgement were: seniors Phil Bush, Casey Earp, Taylor Leary, Matt Legrice and Chris Timmerman, and sophomores Tanner Grimes and Sam Gary.

Senior goalie Cooper Lee was named to the All-League team.

Grimes and Gary also were named to the Mountain League’s All-Rookie team.

Timmerman, Bush and Lee also were selected by a state panel as Colorado All-Stars, and the trio played in the state All-Star game March 6 at Sertich Arena in Colorado Springs. Lee started in goal and earned MVP honors in the game.

The following players also were named to the All-Academic team at the awards’ banquet: Leary, Lee, Legrice, Timmerman, Gary and juniors Chris Baumann, Ryan Brees and Clay McKenzie.
