Taylor Fletcher 3rd in Japan World Cup, Bryan Fletcher 8th

Was Friday the great day, or is it today?

That may depend on who you ask or where you are, but no matter the date or location it was a great day for Steamboat Springs Nordic combined Fletcher brothers.

Racing Saturday morning at a World Cup at Sapparo, Japan, Taylor Fletcher matched the best result of his career, finishing third. Bryan Fletcher wasn’t far behind, placing eighth.

The brothers skied up from deep in the pack, Taylor from 28th and Bryan from 27th. The result was the second time in two weeks and third time in their careers the pair have earned top-10 performances on the same day.

Taylor pulled even with the lead pack late in the race and led the event with about 1 kilometer remaining.

Germany’s Eric Frenzel won the event. Japan’s Akito Watabe was second, 1.8 seconds back. Taylor was right behind him, 3.5 seconds off Frenzel, to earn a spot on the podium.

Bryan finished 21.9 seconds off the lead.

Bryan also had a top 10 finish the day before in Japan, placing ninth after taking what he termed on social media as a shot at the podium. He now has racked up five top 10 finishes this month.

Taylor’s podium finished matched a third place finish he had in Austria in January 2013.
