Sustainable Business Tour to focus on solar
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — With the current 30% solar installation federal tax credit set to decrease at the end of 2019, now is the time to learn more about a solar install at the Talking Green event “Is Solar Right for your Home or Business?”
Community members are invited to join Yampa Valley Sustainability Council and CSU Extension energy specialist Cary Weiner for a free evening of solar education starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9. Weiner, director of the CSU Rural Energy Center, will discuss the financial decision-making process to go solar.
The program will start in the new community room at Mountain Valley Bank, 2201 Curve Plaza, next to Ace Hardware. Construction of the bank building last year included the installation of a 27-kilowatt solar array with 84 solar panels on the roof. Talking Green attendees will learn about the bank’s clean energy array from installer Matt Piva, of Brightside Solar in Steamboat Springs.
The audience will progress at 6:30 p.m. to Butcherknife Brewing Co., 2875 Elk River Road, for discounted brews and time to learn about the brewery’s solar array from Colin McCaulley, of Sunwise Solar in Steamboat.
The evening will include an update on Solar United Neighbors in the Yampa Valley, a new consumer co-op that offers a group discount on solar installations for businesses or residences in Routt and Moffat counties.
