Suspect in custody after turning himself in to Routt County Jail

Brian McCleary turned himself to the Routt County Jail at 9:07 a.m. today, according to Sheriff Doug Scherar. McCleary is now in custody after a nearly 48-hour long hunt conducted by law enforcement.

The search began on Wednesday night after McCleary was pulled over by police and allegedly rammed two police vehicles during a traffic stop and began to drive away, according to the sheriff’s office. A deputy then shot at McCleary’s tire to disable the vehicle, which is when McCleary took off on foot.

According to Scherar, McCleary has not been interviewed yet, but will be “interviewed by investigators shortly.”

“The Routt County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the community for their assistance during this investigation and the Steamboat Springs Police Department, the Hayden Police Department, the Colorado State Patrol, the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, the Craig Police Department and the 14th Judicial District Critical Incident Team,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We appreciate everyone’s efforts in helping us protect our first responders and our citizens.”
