Super Seniors: David Zehner

David Zehner

Editor’s note: The Steamboat Pilot & Today asked readers to tell us about their favorite seniors over the age of 75 and then we asked these Super Seniors to share their secrets to living a long and healthy life.

David Zehner

Age: 79

Super powers: A native of Hayden, David Zehner bought the ranch where he was born, north of Hayden, from his parents in 1965 and was a wheat farmer for 25 years, doing excavation work on the side to support the farm and his family. He was owner of Precision Excavation Inc. of Hayden, working long hours until his son bought the company, and he retired. He skied Mount Werner at its beginning, snowmobiled North Routt County, obtained his private pilot’s license and owned his own airplane. He hikes in North Routt and has completed the Zirkle Circle several times, hiking to Three Island Lake last year. He hikes and ATVs in Arizona, as well. He continues to work long hours helping his neighbors with projects that he is qualified to do, which is just about anything. When he is working, the younger men ask, ‘Just how old are you?’ David is also a wonderful husband of 59 years, father and friend.

What are your secrets for living a long and healthy life?

“Hard work, a good wife, a positive attitude and faith in God.”
