Super Seniors: Bob and Audrey Enever

Bob and Audrey Enever

Editor’s note: The Steamboat Pilot & Today asked readers to tell us about their favorite seniors over the age of 75 and then we asked these Super Seniors to share their secrets to living a long and healthy life.

Bob and Audrey Enever

Ages: 90 and 88, respectively

Super powers: The Enevers have been married for 63 years and are partners in every sense of the word. Audrey is a mathematician and was one of the first women computer programmers, and Bob worked for Ford before the couple moved to Steamboat Springs in 1959. One of the Enevers’ most lasting community contributions is the Yampa River Botanic Park. The couple gave the city the land for the park in 1992 and then used their own money to develop it, eventually endowing it with a $1 million gift. They have been actively maintaining and improving the park’s facilities over the past 25 years, and it is now one of Steamboat’s gems. Bob still rides his bike to maintain his health, and Audrey exercises her mind with puzzles.

What are your secrets to living a long and healthy life?

“Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, regularly exercise — yesterday, I rode my road bike to the far end of Pleasant Valley — and keep busy. I like to plan things for the Botanic Park and pursue photography. I’m also compiling a book of my bird photographs for publication. I also eat Great Decisions dinners, attend Seminars, read histories, attend Strings concerts, engage in worldwide email correspondence, advise my grandson and try to keep up with my always-challenging wife, Audrey.” — Bob Enever
