Sunny skies expected for Yampa Valley this weekend

After our latest March storm pushes through the Yampa Valley late Friday, sunny skies are expected to provide bluebird days over the weekend.

Thursday brought high winds and temperatures in the low-40s in Steamboat Springs, with low-20s at the top of Steamboat Resort — following a morning storm that delivered 4 inches of snow at mid-mountain and 6 inches at the summit.

The storm’s final push will carry into Friday night with a cold front and some more snow, according to local meteorologist Mike Weissbluth’s forecast on SnowAlarm.com.

“A winter storm is over Nevada and Utah, and some ejecting energy ahead of the storm last night brought the better-than-expected snowfall this morning,” said Weissbluth in his Thursday report. “The storm has split, with another lobe of energy moving overhead tonight while the parent storm sinks into Arizona on Friday.”

Snow showers Thursday evening were expected to bring an extra 2-5 inches of snow to Steamboat Resort’s mid-mountain by Friday morning. More snow was expected to fall around noon Friday, Weissbluth reported.

Sunny skies and mild temperatures were expected to follow and dominate the weekend, with temperatures climbing to the mid-30s on Saturday and mid-40s on Sunday.
