— Sundance Studio is taking over the space next door to its facility in Sundance Plaza, doubling the yoga and fitness studio’s size and adding a more comprehensive wellness center.

Remodeling is taking place during the holidays and will be complete early in the new year, with a grand opening scheduled for Jan. 19, the studio’s two-year anniversary.

“When I opened, I had a desire for a wellness center as part of the studio,” owner Kristen Rockford said.

Previously, the studio had two rooms used for wellness center activities, such as massage or the services of an esthetician, in addition to the studio space used for classes in activities like yoga and Pilates. The current remodel will add five additional wellness rooms.

“I realized it would be a wonderful thing to be able to expand the wellness center to offer more diversity of wellness providers,” Rockford said.

In the past, Rockford said she’s had to deny wellness providers looking for a space to offer their services because Sundance’s two rooms were booked.

“I frequently receive requests from those looking for space, and I have to turn them down,” she said.

Of the seven wellness rooms that now will be at the studio, Rockford said wellness providers will accommodate all but one, which she plans to leave open for hourly rentals for additional wellness providers needing occasional space to practice.

Rockford said the business now would serve as a one-stop shop for health and wellness, offering exercise classes in addition to mental and spiritual wellness.

Practitioners will include Beth Wendler, who will offer life coaching and counseling services, and Marie Newton, who offers acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga, Chinese medicine and work with the BioMat, a far infrared healing mat.

“The BioMat — it’s new and cutting edge,” Rockford said.

Wendler said she’s used the studio for a family music class since it opened but was looking forward to putting her recently completed master’s degree in psychology to use with life coaching and counseling.

“It’s really a nice place to work, a welcoming, peaceful place,” Wendler said. “I love it. I love Kristen’s commitment to wellness and wholeness.”

A mother of three teenagers, Wendler said she usually counsels and coaches other moms who are interested in healing, wholeness and health.

Nearly two years since opening her studio, Rockford said she was excited about the accomplishment of completing such an extensive studio expansion.

“It was a lot of work and I took my time,” she said. “It’s exciting.”
