Students, staff to ski free

Ski Corp. offers tickets to Yampa Valley teachers, children

— Students and staff enrolled or working in area schools will enjoy a free weekend of skiing and snowboarding Saturday and Sunday.

For the ninth season, the Steamboat Ski Area is allowing elementary, middle and high school students, faculty and other employees from Steamboat Springs, Hayden, South Routt, Craig, Meeker, Rangely, Walden and Maybell to ski for free Saturday and Sunday.

“This program enables students, faculty and school employees to try firsthand the sport of skiing or snowboarding absolutely free,” said Chris Diamond, president of Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. “We want every student in the Yampa Valley to have the opportunity to give the sport a try this season.”

Those wishing to take advantage of the special offer from the ski area need to check in at the main ticket office to pick up lift passes. Proof of enrollment is required with a report card or other appropriate documentation. Proof of employment is required for faculty and school employees.

Family members wishing to join students can purchase a lift ticket for $39 at the ticket office. Students and family members must pick up their tickets at the same time.

The ski area closes Sunday with an end-of-season party featuring a 3 p.m. concert Sunday with the Young Dubliners, a Colorado band.

All lifts will shut down for the season at 3 p.m. Sunday.
