Steamboat’s Deirdre Boyd named Colorado History Teacher of the Year

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Steamboat Springs High School teacher Deirdre Boyd has been named 2018 Colorado History Teacher of the Year, according to a press release from Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the organization that presents the award.

The award highlights the importance of history education by honoring exceptional American history teachers from elementary through high schools, according to the release.

Boyd, who has taught social studies in Steamboat since 2001, now is among the pool of teachers from which the national award winner will be selected.

In addition to the award, Boyd will receive a $1,000 honorarium, and the school library will be sent American history books and Gilder Lehrman educational materials, according to the release.
