Steamboat volleyball falls to Eagle Valley in 4 sets

The Steamboat Springs High School volleyball team looked sharp, and enthusiasm was high during the squad’s first set against Eagle Valley on Saturday.

Eagle Valley came into the match undefeated in Western Slope league play, and the Sailors knew they would be challenged.

The first set was fierce, with the Sailors pulling out a 27-25 win. They then lost the next three sets. In the fourth set, Steamboat was edged out 23-25.

“Overall I felt like we fought harder than I’ve seen us fight all year,” coach Wendy Hall said. “That’s the top team in the league we played today.”

Eagle Valley improved its record to 8-2, while Steamboat is now 5-7.

“I felt like we fought our guts out today,” Hall said. “I’m really, really proud of those kids today.”

Steamboat next plays Grand Junction High School at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
