Steamboat Springs volleyball opened the season with a six-game road trip before stepping foot on its home court Thursday.

During that span, the team won five games including wins over Middle Park and Moffat County. The lone loss on the road came against Coal Ridge in a tournament at Glenwood Springs.

On Thursday night, the Sailors hosted Battle Mountain in Steamboat’s home opener and suffered their second loss of the season, 3-1.

The Huskies took early control in the match, narrowly winning the first two sets by five and four points, respectively. The Sailors stormed back with an overtime win by two in the third but could not hold onto the momentum in the fourth.

With the loss, the Sailors dropped to 5-2 on the season and 0-1 in league play. Next up for Steamboat will be a road match at Eagle Valley (5-2) on Saturday.
