Jack Reich was fourth in giant slalom Thursday, leading the way for Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club skiers at the U16 regional championships in Vail.

Reich was one of five Steamboat boys to squeeze into the top 10 in the event on another strong day of racing for the club skiers.

Colton Sankey was seventh, Noah Riemenschneider eighth, Cole Gedeon ninth and James Lahrman 10th.

“They just push each other every day in training,” U16 coach Ben Brown said. “They know they all beat each other in training all the time, so if one of them does well in a race, the others have confidence, too.”

Alex Blair was 16th in super-G on the girls side on Wednesday, and Emily Schneider was recognized for making the most improvement from her first giant slalom run to her second, going from 83rd place to 44th.

The team will wrap up its stay in Vail on Friday with slalom racing.
