STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club cross-country ski team competed in its final Rocky Mountain Nordic races in Durango this weekend.

Several SSWSC athletes competed for and earned spots on the Rocky Mountain Junior National Team for the 2019 Cross Country Junior Nationals on March 9 to 17 in Anchorage, Alaska.

Waverly Gebhart, an automatic qualifier based on her U.S. Nordic skiing nationals results and World Junior Championships participation, was first to earn a spot on the team. She has chosen to race in the OPA Cup Races in Europe with the U.S. Ski Team instead.

Ellory Kearns and Anna Terranova advanced to junior nationals for the U18 age group. Sidney Barbier and Ellery Hodges will represent the SSWSC in the women’s U16 age group. Sadie Cotton, an athlete at the University of Denver, will compete in the U20 age group at junior nationals.

The men will send Kieran Hahn and Chase High in the U18 age group. Wally Magill, Sumner Cotton and Griff Rillos will compete in the U16 age group. Jimmy Colger, also a skier at the University of Denver, will compete in the U20 junior nationals.

Magill raced up in age class and finished second in the U18/20 race in Sunday’s mass start classic. Cotton won the men’s U16 race, and Rillos came in fourth.
