Steamboat Springs skier Cliff Field leads American Nordic juniors

— Steamboat Springs skier Cliff Field led the Americans in Thursday’s opening Nordic combined competition at the FIS Junior World Ski Championships in Otepaa, Estonia.

Field finished 19th in a HS100/10-kilometer event, less than three minutes behind winner Johannes Rydzek, of Germany.

Slovenia’s Marjan Jelenko was second and Estonia’s Kaarel Nurmsalu was third. Nick Hendrickson, of Park City, Utah, was 22nd. He was followed by a pair of Steam­boat skiers, Michael Ward in 36th and Erik Lynch in 42nd.

The next event is a HS100/5-kilometer event Saturday.
