Steamboat Springs, Palisade end in a tie Tuesday

— The Steamboat Springs and Palisade high school soccer teams played to a 1-1 tie Tuesday in Palisade.

Junior David Comeau scored for the Sailors at the 22-minute mark of the first half. It was the first time this season Steamboat scored before its opponent.

Palisade evened the score with a minute left in the first half, and the teams played a scoreless second half and two 5-minute overtimes.

Both teams had chances to win the game, Steamboat coach Rob Bohlmann said.

“Again, it comes down to lack of composure in the penalty box,” Bohlmann said. “Defending, specifically Robert Sorensen and Chris Troeger at center back, was solid. Robert, especially, did a nice job recovering and tracking some of their forwards down.”

The Sailors (1-9-2 overall, 1-6-2 in league) haven’t gotten the wins they wanted this season, but they have played every league opponent close. There are just three seniors on the team.

“Results-wise, we are in a stage where we are progressing,” Bohlmann said. “The effort has been really solid. The play has been passionate.”

Steamboat faces Moffat County at 4 p.m. today at Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig. The Bulldogs have defeated the Sailors once this season.

“It was a tight game when we played at our place,” Bohlmann said. “We haven’t got a result against them in a couple years. That’s a lot to play for.”
